The Day of Sadness for the Holy Prophet (PBUHHP)

"Islam did not rise except through Ali's (A.S.) sword and Khadija's wealth,"

“Hazrat Khadija (peace be upon her) declared her belief in me at a time when people were against me, she certified Prophethood at a time when people were not accepting it, and provided me monetary help when all others deprived me from it.”

These are the words uttered by Chief of Prophets, Prophet Muhammad (peace of Allah be upon him & his pure seed) in honour of Umm-ul-Mominin Khadija-tul-Kubra (peace be upon her), one of the four perfect women in the entire universe.

Khadija-tul-Kubra (peace be upon her) was Prophet Muhammad (peace of Allah be upon him & his pure seed)’s first wife, and they shared exemplary love, unity, mutual understanding and coherent views. He did not marry further in the presence of Khadija (peace be upon her). Purification and piousness have been termed the basis of the religion and Khadija (peace be upon her) has given new heights to purification and piousness as a result of which she was awarded with the title of ‘Tahira’ even before the Prophethood declaration.

Khadijah (peace be upon her) was his source of encouragement and comfort. She stood by the Prophet (peace of Allah be upon him & his pure seed) all the time; in moments of trial and difficulty the Prophet (peace of Allah be upon him & his pure seed) used to come to her and she consoled and comforted her husband and encouraged him. Khadija (peace be upon her)’s financial support had a great role in strengthening Islam. She was the ideal woman, the ideal wife for prophet (peace of Allah be upon him & his pure seed), and the ideal mother for her children.

The Lord of Dignity ordered Jibraeel (Gabriel), peace be upon him, to convey His regards to her. Gabriel said to Muhammad (pbuh):

"O Muhammad! Khadija is bringing you a bowl of food; when she comes to you, tell her that her Lord greets her, and convey my greeting, too, to her."

When he (pbuh) did so, she said: "Allah is the Peace, and He is the source of all peace, and upon Gabriel be peace."

Khadija died of an attack of fever on the tenth or eleventh day of the month of Ramadan, ten years after the start of the Prophetic mission (in the year 619 A.D.), 24 years after her marriage with Muhammad (pbuh), and she was buried at Hajun in the outskirts of Mecca. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) dug her grave and buried her... Funeral prayers (salat al janaza) had not yet been mandated in Islam. It is reported that by the time she died, her entire wealth had already been spent to promote Islam; she left not a single gold dinar nor a single silver dirham, nor anything more or less...
